Consultation
Our professional psychologists are not only trained to diagnose problems and offer treatment, but are also trained in consultation techniques. Our psychologists use their extensive experience and expertise, as well as the most current and proven resources to tailor specific recommendations based on our consultation.
Psychological consultation differs from therapy. With therapy, individuals usually know what the specific issues are and are looking for relief for those issues. However, many times individuals, agencies, or organizations are not fully aware of the exact nature of the problem they are experiencing, but are aware that a problem exists and that help is needed. In cases such as this, we usually suggest a consultation. Consultation interviews are usually longer than a therapy session and are used to gather relevant background information, determine the exact nature of the problem and to examine what solutions have been tried. Following this, we are able to make recommendations, which could include further psychological assessment and/or therapy.
We also offer consultation for individuals seeking access to veteran's benefits, educational grants, disability tax credits, or military benefits. These include military family members, veterans, post-secondary students seeking education grants and disability tax credits through the Canada Revenue Agency.
