Maura MacKinnon, MASP

Maura MacKinnon specializes in the assessment and treatment of children and young adults experiencing difficulties in the school setting. A registered psychologist with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology, Maura holds an undergraduate honours degree in psychology and a Masters of Arts in School Psychology. She has also completed a Masters of Education with a concentration in Special Education. Maura practices both privately and within the school systems. She has a strong interest in children experiencing behavioral challenges and currently much of her work within the school system focuses on the assessment and design of interventions for these students.

Maura has extensive experience providing assessment and intervention for children and adolescents with an range of academic, behavioral and social-emotional challenges.  Through the assessment process, Maura helps individuals to better understand the cause of their challenges and to identify their strengths and areas of need in order to develop targeted interventions for use at home and at school. Maura believes that process of assessment and subsequent interventions can not only maximize school functioning and improve the quality of life experienced by children and adolescents with academic and behavioral difficulties but also empower individuals and their family to become competent advocates on their own behalf.
